Jen’s off on vacation! Dave has to work, but our friend Lana is joining Jen for the first half of the trip.
After a long set of flights via Iceland Air, we made it to Schiphol Airport. It’s a busy place! We grabbed the hotel shuttle to where we were staying, and scored an extra early check in.
After dropping out bags and freshening up, we went in search of sustenance. Most places were closed, so we ended up at McDonald’s.
Hunger satisfied, we grabbed the shuttle back to the airport, which also happened to be a major train hub. The Sprinter took us to Amsterdam Centraal in fifteen minutes.
Stepping out of the station was magic. Bikes and trams everywhere, great old buildings, canals, and canal boats.
We narrowed in on a canal boat company with audio guide, and found ourselves on a Lovers Canal Tour within fifteen minutes. Over the course of an hour we saw the city from the water – bridges, homes, dancing houses, historic spots, all.
After a lovely tour we found a small Italian restaurant for some light repast before heading back on the train. We’re tired but happy, and enjoying ourselves already.
